Householders: Become a taalumot.space Member
I am thrilled to announce the launch of Householders, the taalumot.space annual membership.
This model will allow me to realize dreams of online community support I have always had and about which I have been writing this whole time. The tagline of this website is “spiritual practice advice for householders,” and this membership will enable the fulfillment of that promise.
Householders membership is for people at any stage of life. I have drawn this term from my Buddhist lineage transmission, and it is meant to contrast with “monastics,” people who have the support and ability to leave behind worldly concerns and concentrate solely on spiritual practice. That’s not my reality, and I write for the people like me who want deep spiritual practice from within the householder realm. It’s not an easy path. My Zen teacher often tells me it’s the harder of the two paths. And yet here we are doing it anyway. We need support for that, and that is what this membership is designed to provide us.
Here’s what becoming a Householder gets you:
Base
The main reason to become a Householder is access to Base, a private message board for householders at any stage of life to hang out and hold council on topics of community, family, livelihood, skills, and spirituality.
My hope is that this will make it comfortable for us to discuss and share in the real experience of householder life free from the threats and unpleasantries of social media and the open internet.
I believe it will provide us this value from day one, but over time it will become incomparably more valuable as it grows into a searchable resource of the wisdom of our community on all these topics, from meditation advice to best bedtime stories for kids to how to design a chicken coop to how to organize for more affordable housing in our local communities.

This is not a Discord or something; it is a website I am hosting myself, its own self-contained Householders community that can only be accessed by active taalumot.space members.
You can bookmark it in your browser, but you can also save it to the home screen of a mobile device or the dock of a desktop computer, and it will work amazingly well like an app. You can even get push notifications if you want. It has live chat and direct messages in addition to forum-style topics. It is a fully featured communal internet home. And I’ve written good rules and guidelines I believe will keep it a safe and healthy place to be.
I will make access to Base available to people in exchange for contributions to the community other than money, if you can show me clearly what that contribution would be. My intent is that this is a space requiring real trust and commitment, but if you have a way to offer that to this community that is not a monetary contribution — or if you simply need an alternative financial arrangement to work with your circumstances — let’s talk about it.
