Sky Memory

Natal transits involve ORIENTATION.

Signs traverse the sky through the year, so there’s nothing like a solar return when they’re in the SAME place and the daylight and weather and flora and such are the same.

But we feel how our signs move, just like the planets themselves.

Natal transits involve MEMORY.

That planet is not there anymore (unless, you know, it IS). What’s there is a place in the sky you remember.

A planet is making a shape with that part of the sky right now.

You’ve remembered that planet every day since you were born.

What does it mean for a sign to traverse the sky through the year?

It means the sign proceeds gradually through the times of day.

Today at sunset, Scorpio will be rising. At sunset on the Solstice, Capricorn will be rising.

Every part of the sky moves in seasons.

I can understand the modern interest in precision. If one was born with Venus at 07°♈︎48', one might say “today is my Venus return.”

But where in the sky was it when you were born?

Where in the sky is it now?

What time was Venus in Aries glittering near the horizon?

Rarely is there some complete configuration that echoes perfectly through time.

Memory arises from SENSATIONS: That looks familiar. This feels familiar. This sky reminds me of another sky long ago. Or last month.

We’re always transiting ourselves, finding some new aspect.
