Not Naming Is Lindy
I run in circles where there is much talk of gods and guides, but of late I find myself reticent to enshrine entities with entity names. Forces instead of beings. “Creativity.” “Blessing.” “Guidance.”
It is a common magical trope that naming gives power over the named. Seems to me the power of naming over the NAMER is at least as strong, or stronger.
Call me whatever you want. My true name is unspeakable. But when you start calling me whatever name you’ve chosen, that’s who I become to you.
Sure, if you have the power to spread that name throughout the world, then you’ve boxed me in. But otherwise, I have the advantage.
And that’s just ME, a being no more powerful than you are. No less knowable. Nameable in the same way you are. What amount of worldly power would you need to take over the name of something ELSE?
Surely one of the best known wisdoms made exoteric by the Jewish people is that we do not pronounce The Name (יהוה). There was a time and place where we did, and it was destroyed. It is said we forgot how after that. We have survived inquisitions by many namers of names since then.
Just saying, not naming is lindy.
