Jesus Was a Rabbi

Someday I should just go ahead and reclaim Jesus as a rabbi and Jewish figure and be like, “y’all are being weird about our man.”

While I’m on a roll here, the thing that galls about the kind of antisemitism one finds amongst Christians is the flatness of the caricature.

Like, why are “the Jews” identified as the Temple elites, as opposed to the people who revolted against that obviously volatile situation?

We have A WHOLE BIBLE about how the entire idea of objectifying the Divine is bad, and how the risk of institutionalizing service to G_d is decadence and corruption.

I assume you’ve read it; it’s where the messianic fervor behind your religion came from, right?

You’re all fond of pointing out how Jesus was Jewish, and at least SOME of you are fond of pointing out the parts where he taught that Jews should remain Jews and keep the mitzvot and stuff.

So why aren’t THOSE “the Jews”? why do “the Jews” have to be the corrupt elites?
