Horary 0004: Where Is Little Buddy?

Overview

The querent’s parents had sent them a childhood toy dubbed Little Buddy who became lost in the mail. They wanted to know whether Little Buddy would ever arrive.

Judgment

This immediately struck me as an exceedingly rough chart. The Full Moon is applying in dark houses, with the Moon in the 12th and still many hours away from perfecting. The Sun rules the 12th house cusp for good (bad) measure, a perfect(ly bad) signification of the traveler being stuck or imprisoned.

The Moon is separating from its ruler, a fallen and exiled Mercury in Pisces — signifying the querent as the ascendant ruler — which is also applying to the Sun and entering combustion. Mercury (the querent) in Pisces exalts Venus, ruler of the 2nd house of the querent’s possession, which can be taken as the direct significator of Little Buddy.

Venus (Little Buddy) is in exile in Aries and right inside the 8th house cusp. It cannot see the ascendant, nor can it see the ascendant ruler who exalts it, and it is applying to its own ruler, a culminating Mars during its seven-month stay in Gemini, afflicting its lord, Mercury — who not only signifies the querent but also naturally rules the mail. And if that’s not bad enough, Mars rules the 8th house and so is literally the significator of DEATH, and it is Little Buddy’s next contact.

Regrettably, I had to judge that Little Buddy was lost.

Outcome

The querent held out hope for three months, but eventually we agreed to consider the matter concluded. Farewell, Little Buddy. May your adventure be well worth your while.

Analysis

If Little Buddy had shown up after a chart like this, I’m not sure my faith in astrology could have survived. This is like a chart I would make up to describe the gnarliest situation I could possibly think of. While I am sad for my client and their Little Buddy, I am also, to be honest, pretty impressed with the solar system on this one.
