Environmental Divination
Ultimately I reject a distinction between human-made (e.g. tarot) and environmental symbols in terms of the information made available to divination.
But as for the cognitive effects of training, the actual location of my mind is expanding into the trans-human environment.
I’m not talking about a mindfulness/attention thing, or “noticing” things. I’m talking about shifts in the daylight or animals rustling in the bushes (or indeed the passage of the Moon) being more DETERMINATIVE of my mental state than social or even LINGUISTIC activity.
In case it doesn’t go without saying, I feel there is VASTLY more wisdom, perspective, and support available to me here.
I trust anyone in receipt of my writings is aware of the problems with the way “shaman” language is thrown around by urban people who saw a cool bird yesterday.
My sense is that the real human specialty to which this word corresponds is WAY WAY WAY more advanced than the above.
It’s connected, though. it seems best to me to relate to environmental divination as an INITIATORY practice that can reintegrate people’s symbolic minds into the world.
The word “medium” comes to mind, or “intermediary.”
I wouldn’t dare to speak FOR this place I live in, or any of its other inhabitants, even the inorganic ones that could never tattle on me.
But speaking TO them as a foreigner just learning the language is going pretty well.
I did grow up where I now live, to be clear.
But like, behind the veil. You know how it is.
