Communal Conditions

Yall get that religion/sangha/lineage/temples/rituals/etc. are about material/external/interpersonal/communal conditions, right?

Like, ✌️“spiritual experiences”✌️ are just off-gassing from that, and you can either get into favorable conditions for it or not.

Either your internal beliefs/structures/systems are in service of that, or they’re in service of your personal embodied well-being, which I’m more inclined to call “health” than “spirituality” for rhetorical purposes.

If they’re in service of neither, what are they?

If you’re reading this and thinking, “Oh, that’s materialism/nihilism! where is God/Spirit/etc. in that picture!”, I want you to stop and think very carefully about the metaphysical commitments of that position.

And if you’re reading this and thinking, “Other people? Gross.”, I want you to stop and think very carefully about the ethical commitments and psychological implications of that position.

Q: would you say that a hermit is "healthy" rather than "spiritual?"

Only if that hermit is in communion with the land-body ecology where he lives. Otherwise I would expect him to be quite unhealthy.
