I Believe in Syncretism

I believe in Western astrology because I believe in syncretism.

Its whole promise as a tradition is its fusion of symbolic languages from many contributing cultures.

It is at odds with monolithic ideologies.

Any upwelling of ideology in astrology is contrary to the project.

It’s almost as though “ideology” and “astrology” are antonyms.

The former is the derivation of meaning from self-authored concepts.

The latter is the derivation of meaning from absolutely impersonal physical conditions.

This is going to be something of a manifesto for me, I feel like. It describes the cultural repair work to be done using these tools I am learning to use, and with the relationships to Divinity that they facilitate.
