Horary 0008: Where Is the Dog?
Overview
The querent’s three-year-old dog, CocoBelle, had gone missing. The querent lives in a mountainous area with many stray dogs and little infrastructure for them, such as pounds. The dog had not been spayed, and the querent speculated that she could be pregnant.
Judgment
I noted the late ascendant as a consideration, but the chart appeared radical, so I continued.
I gave CocoBelle the Sun, ruler of the 6th house of pets. The Sun is in the fertile sign of Pisces, with Mercury — significator of three different houses in this chart — applying to conjoin; I noted this as a possible sign of pregnancy.
I took the 12th-house position of the Sun to indicate a “yucky place, possibly a pound,” but the querent informed me that there are no pounds in their area. Just a sticky situation then. I noted the diminishing South Node of the Moon on the 8th house cusp and its significator, Mars, looking dangerous in the 3rd, with the Sun applying square. I described this as impending fatal danger, but it hadn’t happened yet.
In a chart for a lost living being, the Moon is an important significator of the lost one and their travel, and I noted the Moon’s imminent opposition to Jupiter, the querent’s significator. I took this as the sign that CocoBelle would return.
I also noted that the Sun was in Jupiter’s domicile; CocoBelle wants to come back to her human.
Outcome
A little over a month later, CocoBelle came back! The querent said “she is in a ‘yucky situation’ — on the street with mange, scratching herself so much she’s bleeding. She’s had at least one litter, but the current batch is five months, so it’s okay to take her in and heal her.” They sent photos.
Analysis
This was an early chart that I was not counting on coming back, but I’m so relieved it did, and that CocoBelle is okay. I’ve found plenty of inanimate objects using horary, but this is my first chart for a living being who had gone missing.
I was excited to use the Moon in this way that is particular to lost life forms, given how clear a testimony there was here of return, despite the obvious trouble she was as described by her main significator.
I am grateful that this art can give such reassurance!
